Microsoft's Table Computer

This looks pretty innovative and original to me. What I'm wondering is: could the open source/free software commnunity have come up with something like that? Or would someone else have to have done it first, for them to then create the open source/free software version? In other words, are they innovators or immitators?

Microsoft's table computer, the "microsoft surface" is incredibly innovative. They should work this through to and make it a vital computer experience and forget all those lawsuits for patent infringement.

I got to believe Steve Jobs is foaming at the mouth and threatening to fire everybody for allowing Microsoft to steal Apple's coolness.
